Yes, students at King’s InterHigh take mock exams to prepare for their real IGCSE and A Level examinations.

Mock exams and other unofficial or informal assessments are taken online during school time. As in a real exam, students will be given a time limit to complete and submit their paper.

If your child requires Special Consideration or Access Arrangements (for example, extra time or use of a laptop) during examinations, let your exam centre know during the booking process. Each centre has its own policy on how to organise these arrangements.

Your child may need to undergo an educational assessment to determine the appropriate arrangements. This is often the case for students with dyslexia or learning difficulties.

Alternatively, you may need to provide evidence of your child’s need from a specialist. This typically applies to students on the autism spectrum and those with ADHD, mental health needs, or medical needs.

King’s InterHigh can also provide a statement about your child’s usual way of working to support your request.

8 0

The majority of our IGCSE and A Level qualifications require students to complete two examinations. Some qualifications may only have one examination, while others have three.

Note that examination centres will typically charge you per qualification, so you will not need to pay separate fees for each paper. Qualifications with spoken or practical examinations may be the exception depending on which exam centre you choose.

5 1

To complete science practical’s as part of the curriculum we utilise the following web browsers Focus on Science, Physics and Chemistry. We also conduct science practical’s at home with house held items. For KS5 students we utilise the programme called Labster which imitates the science laboratory. KS5 Students also have the opportunity to take part in a week residential stay to complete practical’s in person. Please note this is at an additional cost.

We recommend that you register with an exam centre by December in the year before your child’s exams. While this is before of the set deadline for most exam centres, registering ahead of time can give you peace of mind and help you avoid late fees.

For June 2023 exam entry: The deadline to register with the King’s InterHigh Exams Centre is 29th January 2023.

Other centres: Deadlines vary across exam centers, so contact your centre of choice for the most accurate information. For a rough frame of reference, deadlines typically fall around February to March in the year your child takes their exams.

All formal IGCSE examinations take place at the end of Year 11. All formal A Level examinations take place at the end of Year 13. Students must complete these exams at an examination centre.

Note that all in-school asssessments and mock exams are conducted online during class time.

Year 6 learners do not sit SATs at King’s InterHigh.

Instead, our teachers assess students each week through quizzes and short tests. At the end of each topic, students complete a longer assessment (for example, a written assignment) which tests their understanding in-depth. These informal assessments are designed to track progress and tailor learning accordingly without causing stress to our students.

Examination fees are not included in your child’s King’s InterHigh tuition fees.

Fees vary from centre to centre, so contact your exam centre of choice for the most accurate information. Typically, you will pay your exam centre £150-220 GBP per qualification (not per examination).

1 1

Exam centres are available in most countries around the world. If there is no exam centre in your current country of residence, we will endeavour to help you find another suitable centre within travelling distance.

If formal exams are cancelled, your child will still need examination entries for each subject in order to receive a grade. As such, you will not need to cancel your booking.

If you do choose to withdraw your child’s entry, you may receive a full or partial refund based on your centre’s policies.

If you received an AS level grade for a Cambridge International or Edexcel International qualification in the June 2022 series, you will be able to carry it forward to contribute to your overall grade in June 2023.

If you sat a UK exam board AQA, Edexcel, OCR, the AS levels for these boards cannot be carried forward.

If a student took their AS Level in June 2022, they will only need to sit two A Level examinations (per subject) in June 2023. However, the student’s entire final A Level result will only be based on these two exams.

If a student takes their AS Level in October/November 2022, they will only need to sit two A Level examinations (per subject) in June 2023. They can also use their AS grade to contribute towards their final A Level grade.

If a student has not taken any AS Level exams and does not plan to take any this year, they will need to take all four exam papers (per subject) in June 2023.

For AQA, OCR, and Edexcel A Levels (excpet International Sciences): AS Level results do not count towards a student’s final A Level qualification. This applies regardless of exam cancellations.

We will inform all families of the upcoming IGCSE and A Level exam dates as soon as we receive word from the exam boards.

IB Online

King’s InterHigh has entry requirements for the IB – seven IGCSE’s or the equivalent at grade 6+ or above (borderline grades will be considered) is required. This must include Maths and English.

IGCSE

At King’s InterHigh, we offer International GCSEs, also known as IGCSEs. Like British GCSEs, IGCSEs are internationally respected two-year courses available in a wide array of subjects, setting a solid foundation for A Levels or the IB Diploma Programme.

However, there are some key differences between the two. IGCSEs can be studied anywhere in the world, and some IGCSE subjects include more globalised content. IGCSE exams are also available in three sessions per year (May to June, November, or January) to accommodate all students. All IGCSEs at King’s InterHigh are assessed entirely through examinations, and some subjects may be graded using the traditional ‘A* to G’ system (rather than the new ‘9 to 1’ scale).

We also offer two subjects as GCSEs: Film Studies and Psychology. Students must be able to take exams in a UK exam centre to study these subjects.

17 13

Students can catch up with recordings of all classes they have missed since joining us. Students can also access all course materials and assignments (except expired tests) for the current year on our learning platform.

13 5

You can find more details about our IGCSE subject content here: https://kingsinterhigh.co.uk/gcse-online/

For our current students, we also lay out each course week-by-week on our learning platform.

5 9

Drama and Performance in Practice at King’s InterHigh is an Assured course, which means it does not count as a GCSE or IGCSE. This course is assessed through coursework and certified by City & Guilds, a highly respected awarding body.

Currently, we are unable to offer Drama as an IGCSE qualification as exam boards do not accept a remote substitute for the live performance component.

8 2

Photography Perspectives at King’s InterHigh is an Assured course, which means it does not count as a GCSE or IGCSE. This course is assessed through coursework and certified by City & Guilds, a highly respected awarding body.

2 2

Film Studies at King’s InterHigh is a UK GCSE, not an IGCSE. As such, students must be able to sit their final exam at an exam centre in the UK. The remaining 30% of the course will be assessed through a film or screenplay extract produced by the student.

8 1

It is possible to join us in Year 11. However, as our IGCSEs are two-year courses, we highly recommend that students join us in Year 10.

Students who join in Year 11 and have not previously studied through our IGCSE exam boards will need to review any missed content and work independently to prepare for their examinations. We will provide access to all Year 10 lesson resources except recordings.

27 2

The majority of our IGCSEs follow Edexcel syllabuses. You can find all exam board details on our subject pages: https://kingsinterhigh.co.uk/gcse-online/

Our Assured courses are certified by the world-respected board City & Guilds. These courses are not equivalent to GCSEs, but they do award students with a certificate upon completion. Like GCSEs, they also involve 120 guided learning hours.

One of the many benefits of learning online with King’s InterHigh is that our digital platform enables teachers to tailor education to each student. We track every learner’s progress through our pupil platform, so teachers can spot students in need of additional attention before they fall behind. Plus, students can message their teachers privately during or after lessons for help.

Unlike in a traditional or mainstream school, students can also catch up on or re-watch their lessons at any time with 24/7 access to lesson recordings. This is perfect for learners who may miss lesson due to medical appointments or illness.

16 0

King’s InterHigh learners have multiple opportunities to socialise with their classmates and build lifelong friendships with their peers. In class, lessons are interactive, and students often work together in small groups using our digital breakout rooms.

Outside the classroom, we offer a range of clubs and extra-curricular activities, common rooms, social platforms, and in-person events. Students can also build their leadership and teamwork skills through a variety of school initiatives, from the student council to our student-led newspaper.

Students with ADHD and learning difficulties such as dyslexia benefit from the online learning environment we offer at King’s InterHigh. Our school community is already home to many learners with Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs) and Statements of Special Educational Needs.

With lesson recordings available to watch 24/7, students can review their past classes for extra support. Many find that this reduces the pressure to take everything in during a live lesson, and it also allows students to work through the content at their own pace.

These learners may also feel more comfortable learning from home in an environment they can control. Our digital classrooms are designed to avoid negative behaviour and disruptions, and private teacher chat options allow students to answer questions without fear of making mistakes in front of classmates.

We also offer drop-in sessions to support students in Key Stages 3 and 4 with English, Maths, and Science.

Similarly we have summer camps held over the summer in collaboration with our sister company Inspired schools. Lastly, we also have a Private Community Facebook page whereby families get to liase with eachother. It’s a great way to network with families in your local area. There are often smaller meet ups posted on there organised by our lovely families.

Teaching and Learning

If a student will be absent from class, parents can notify us through the parent portal.

King’s InterHigh offers a flexible approach to learning, making it perfect for students who may not be able to attend every lesson. All classes are recorded and uploaded for viewing at any time, 24/7. If learners miss a class, they’re free to watch the lesson recording at any time. Students can also email their teachers directly for additional guidance if needed.

19 3

All lessons are taught live online with interactive elements. Attending classes according to their timetables, students can interact with their teachers and classmates through video, audio, and text.

For the utmost flexibility, we also record every live lesson. These class recordings (along with lesson resources) are available to view at any time, 24/7.

25 5

All King’s InterHigh teachers are highly experienced and familiar with the British curriculum. The majority of our teachers are based in the UK, while some choose to work internationally. As all our live classes are delivered online, teachers can lead students from any location around the world.

At King’s InterHigh, we offer small class sizes of no more than 20 students for our Explore lessons. In these classes, students delve into the learning with discussions, digital tools and technologies, breakout rooms, and more. Explore lessons are proceeded by a lecture-style Learn class, which is a larger class session focused on top-level concepts.

35 6

Core subjects (English, Maths, and Science) offer additional weekly support classes, though provision may vary across year groups. Students can also contact their teachers for additional help. For students with EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans), our wellbeing team is on hand to help create effective study plans.

Many students also make great use of their lesson recordings to get up to speed on difficult concepts. Learners are free to rewatch any past lesson at any time, going over material that they didn’t grasp the first time around.

14 1

Our teachers use a variety of tools and teaching methods to differentiate content for each student. This ensures all learners are appropriately supported or challenged, driving consistent academic progress. Some of these tools include breakout rooms for small group work and self-marking quizzes.

7 0

Learners will sit a baseline assessment that currently takes place twice a year (October and March), along with short, informal assessments such as quizzes each week. At the end of each topic, teachers set a longer assessment (such as a written assignment) to test understanding in-depth.

This programme of assessment is designed to track students’ progress efficiently and make sure learners are sufficiently supported or challenged without causing academic stress. If teachers spot that a student is falling behind or exceeding expectations, they can adjust that students content appropriately.

18 3

On average, students receive one piece of homework per subject per week, but exact homework amounts are decided at each teacher’s discretion. Homework may include a mix of short quizzes, handwritten or drawn assignments, longer written assignments, and so on.

20 8

Students will need textbooks for certain subjects. A full book list is available through the parent portal, and most books are available through Amazon or other major online retailers.

46 5

Course content differs between exam boards and sometimes between schools. As such, the content your child studies at King’s InterHigh may be different.

12 14

Tracking your child’s progress is simple with our King’s InterHigh parent portal. Through your dashboard, you can see your child’s attendance and reports. With an Observer account on the learning platform, you’ll also be able to see your child’s assignment grades along with teacher feedback.

IGCSEs and A Levels are highly respected by sixth forms, colleges, universities, and employers around the world. Alongside high-level academic understanding, these qualifications teach a wide range of transferrable skills that can be applied to the world of work or higher education.

All universities in the UK accept IGCSE and A Level qualifications. Most top international universities also accept IGCSEs and A Levels, but we advise checking the admission requirements for your child’s university of choice.

13 7

Most subjects involve three 40-minute lessons per week, for a total of two hours per subject. Total classes per week depend on how many subjects a student is taking. For example, those taking seven subjects will have around 21 lessons per week, or 4 to 5 each day. Students will also take part in tutor group sessions and optional exercise classes.

King’s InterHigh offers a flexible approach to learning, making it perfect for students who may not be able to attend every lesson. Parents and guardians are free to contact teachers at any time throughout the academic year. All of your child’s teachers’ email addresses can be found on your parent portal dashboard.

Our school system is flexible, so we are happy to accommodate students who need to move up or down a year. Teachers can also differentiate work for students within the same year group to ensure every learner is adequately supported or challenged.

IGCSEs are accepted across the UK, so your child is welcome to sit A Levels at another Sixth Form or college. Prior to IGCSEs in Year 10, students follow the National Curriculum for England, which does not issue any official certificates or qualifications. We can, however, provide a letter or registration to confirm the level and duration of your child’s study. Full academic reports are also available on our digital platform.

InterHigh offers a different way of learning to the traditional physical school, the online environment provided has large benefits for a learner with special educational needs. Students accessing their lessons from home, in an environment they are comfortable in and can control. We also provide firm and consistent boundaries for students who require this approach. There is no negative behaviour to interact with in an InterHigh classroom and any behaviour from the student does not impact on other learners or cause disciplinary issues for the student. The teacher can restrict student access to general chat, private chat, microphone access and indeed the classroom itself. Students are aware of these controls and therefore respond to these firm boundaries. The teacher can set questions via a Q&A pod with only the teacher seeing the responses and therefore students are not anxious in answering questions or giving opinions. InterHigh do currently offer support classes for English, Maths and Science at KS3 and 4 but these are drop-in sessions to help with current classwork and homework issues rather than special educational needs classes. InterHigh already has students with Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP’s) and Statements of Special Educational Needs (Wales) placed with us with funding provided by the Local Authority.

24 12

Your exam centre will provide you with your child’s ICGSE or A Level results once they are available. These grades can be used to apply to Sixth Forms, colleges, or universities.

King’s InterHigh does not issue a certificate at the end of the school year, but we do provide families with progress reports at the end of each term. If you do need a letter confirming that your child attends King’s InterHigh, contact us here: [email protected]

Yes, students can email their class teacher or Senior Leader of Learning at any time. Teachers will reply according to their schedule and the urgency of the enquiry.

While attendance in lessons is highly recommended, we are proud to support all students with a need for flexibility. If students do miss a class, they’re free to catch up with 24/7 access to lesson recordings.

Our digital classroom environment at King’s InterHigh is designed to avoid behavioural issues, disruptions, and distractions. If needed, teachers can restrict a student’s access to chat or microphone communication until the end of the lesson. Teachers can also separate students into breakout rooms so they can talk through behaviour and remedy the situation after class ends.

All students are informed of the rules and controls in place. In turn, this creates a positive learning atmosphere for all students and helps ease worries for learners who have been bullied in the past.
