Online German A Level course overview

The AQA A Level German online course provides students with opportunities to study the German language, as well as technological and social change, and the multicultural nature of German-speaking society. They will study highlights of German-speaking artistic culture, including art and architecture, and will learn how Germany’s political landscape was formed. Students will explore the influence of the past on present-day German-speaking communities.

Throughout their studies, they will learn the language in the context of German-speaking countries and the issues and influences which have shaped them. Students will study texts and film and will have the opportunity to carry out independent research on an area of their choice.

A Level German online, students will sit exams in:

  • Listening, reading and writing
  • Writing (question on a set text or film)
  • Speaking

Prior learning

Candidates who are beginning this course should have previously completed an IGCSE course in German, or the equivalent level of qualification.

Progression

A Level German online provides a suitable foundation for the study of German or related courses in higher education. German A Level online is equally suitable for candidates intending to pursue careers or further study in German, or as part of a course of general education.

Exam Information

In the October of Year 11, 12 and 13 parents and guardians will receive an email asking which exams the learner intends to take, and where they would like to take them. Parents and guardians must inform InterHigh if they need assistance finding an exam centre by mid-October. InterHigh can support you in finding a local exam centre. It is then down to the individual to register with the centre of choice and pay the exam fees to the centre directly. Access Arrangements

Physical, medical or learning support needs may be eligible for access arrangements during exams. These can include:
  • Extra time of 25%*
  • Extra time up to 50%*
  • A reader*
  • A scribe*
  • Supervised rest breaks
  • Separate room
  • Use of a laptop
  • Enlarged print exam papers
*These arrangements must be approved by the exam board. The learner will need to undertake learning assessments with an Educational Psychologist or specialist assessor in order to complete the application form. These assessments can take up to 18 months to process. The deadline for application to the exam board is the February of the year that the learner sits exams.

Students based in the UK have the option to pay annually, per term or monthly. International students based outside the UK cannot pay monthly.

Additional information:

A Level German online can still be taken by students outside of the UK. However, as the subject has UK based exams, students will need to travel to the UK to sit them.
