Yasmin Dyer Year 10

Yasmin was badly bullied at mainstream school, causing her to become very insecure. Since moving to InterHigh, she has made great friends and gained confidence.

Can you tell us about your education experiences before InterHigh?

Before InterHigh, I was in a very horrible place in school. I was badly bullied which caused me to become very insecure. The bullying got worse over time and I was terrified to go to school every day. When I was in school, I would always get picked on in breaks and even in the classroom. I would just sit there in my seat silently crying so I wouldn’t get called names.

What type of school did you attend?

I went to a public school and it taught all school subjects. I found it very hard, not only because of the bullying, but because of the learning. Teachers wouldn’t listen to questions I asked and if I put my hand up, they wouldn’t acknowledge it, they would just carry on with the lesson. It wasn’t just the teachers though; it was the students as well. They would constantly disrupt the classroom and be rude to the teachers to entertain others, taking up most of the lesson time.

Why did you decide to join InterHigh?

I could no longer put up with the name-calling and body shaming in mainstream school anymore. I decided to choose InterHigh because I had heard that it was the best online school in the UK and that the learning is brilliant.

How has studying with InterHigh improved things?

InterHigh has not only helped me with my learning but also helped me make some of the most incredible friends. I used to struggle with every subject but now I have improved miraculously thanks to InterHigh.

From your experience, can you talk us through a typical day at InterHigh?

Each day, I log on to InterHigh and look at my timetable for the day. I’ll get everything I need for each lesson prepared in advance whilst I wait for the lesson to begin, whilst running through the notes from the previous lesson to make sure it stays in my brain.

How do the online features help you to learn and communicate with your teachers?

The way the online classroom is set up is very clever. There is a whiteboard covering half of the screen, a chat box to ask questions and at the top, there is a picture or video recording of the teacher. Plus, if you don’t want to ask a question that everyone can see, there is a Q&A option that goes directly to the teacher.

How has InterHigh made a difference to your life?

InterHigh has made a massive difference in my life because if it wasn’t for InterHigh, I would be stressed over struggling with each subject.

Why should people who may be going through similar experiences to you consider InterHigh?

I would definitely recommend InterHigh because it can help you in so many ways, with confidence, positivity and education.

What are your favourite things about InterHigh?

Overall, it’s hard to choose my favourite thing because I love everything. But it would have to be the online classroom schooling system in general.
