Local MP David Davies supports online schooling during talk to students at InterHigh

David Davies MP, visited InterHigh, an online school with an exam centre based in Crickhowell, to deliver his ‘A Day in the Life’ presentation to students in their online Common Room.

Mr Davies’ presentation offered a behind the scenes look at Parliament and the role of an MP and involved a Q&A session afterwards. The presentation was delivered through the virtual platform and 80 students joined the lively classroom discussion.

A wide range of age groups and cultures joined Mr Davies for a vibrant discussion from Boris and Brexit to Ministers and Maseratis!

David Davies, MP for Monmouth, said:

“I am repeatedly told more can be done by politicians to reach out to young people and I agree, which is why I thoroughly enjoy giving these talks. They are a great way of engaging pupils with democracy and it is refreshing to exchange views about the issues that matter to them.

“While I am used to delivering these talks in all kinds of schools, today is the first time I have done it virtually. As parents and teachers, it’s important for us to be able to cater for all students and be able to support them in learning in a way that suits them. Today gave great insight into how online platforms and technology can play a pivotal role in helping students engage with their study.”

InterHigh, established in 2005, is a fully interactive, online school where pupils from UK and around the world go to school through a specialised learning platform. The entire accredited online curriculum is taught by expert staff in live classrooms and pupils are also able to take part in clubs, societies and seminars. InterHigh currently has around 1,300 pupils between the ages of 8 to 19.

Jacqueline Daniell, CEO of InterHigh, said:

We were delighted to host Mr Davies at InterHigh. It’s important for young people to understand and be engaged with our political system – it’s an essential part of their learning.

“We would like to thank Mr Davies for taking the time to speak to our students. At InterHigh, we provide our students with a variety of opportunities to engage with guest speakers from a wide variety of fields. Hosting talks like this – as well as many other types of creative activities – in a virtual environment means they can access content in an engaging, interactive and relevant way that appeals to them.”
