Geography

Years 7 to 9 follow a course incorporating the subject matter of the National Curriculum. The course involves work at local, regional, national, international and global scales and provides coverage of different parts of the world and different types of environments. Particular emphasis is placed on the interaction between man and the physical environment.

Pupils will extend their knowledge and deepen their awareness of the world’s countries using maps of the world focusing on environmental regions, including polar and hot deserts, key physical and human characteristics, countries and major cities. Pupils will understand the key processes in physical geography relating to timescale and plate tectonics, rocks and soils, weathering and the weather and climate, hydrology and coasts. Pupils will understand how human and physical processes interact to influence and change environments and climate and how human activity relies on the effective functioning of natural systems.
